Walking down Pune lanes
Every youngster of Maharashtra state after getting done with their matriculation wants to move to Pune for further studies. It’s been the hub of education for the years. As a Young teen who’s on the edge of his Twenties to begin I was shifted to Pune for my bachelors. Excellent colleges, Cool campus, friends from diverse region of country, Pune’s Weather and it’s vibe, these were some of the reasons I’ve had shifted there. It’s been 3–4 years afterwards I’ve tried to see every side of it as I could. Indeed a beautiful city to live in I would say.
Seated on Hills, Healthy weather, Green lush big trees everywhere makes you stop for a while to look at it to feel relaxing. Ganapati festival, Waari is one of the biggest festival which reunites all the citizens of Pune at one place. On many Sundays I tried to stroll randomly in the city, it has always given me close perspective to see, observe things. Style of Houses in every area of Pune is differ than other. while strolling through Kasba peth, Sadashiv peth area you’ll notice the old city houses which have a distinct charm. They are typically traditional Marathi style houses, known as ‘wadas’. These wadas, with their wooden pillars and tiled roofs, give a glimpse into the rich cultural heritage of Pune.
Continuing my exploration, I came across the Peth areas of Pune, a cluster of neighborhoods in the central area of the city. These areas, named after days of the week in Marathi, have a unique character. The streets here are lined with old-style shops selling everything from spices to jwelery, and the hustle-bustle never seems to die down. It’s like stepping back in time.
The diversity of Pune’s architecture, from the traditional wadas in the old city to the modern structures in the newer areas, is a testament to the city’s ability to balance its rich history with modernization. It’s a city that respects its roots while embracing the future, making it a fascinating place to live and study.
In Camp area, the houses have a unique style. They are a blend of colonial and Indian architecture, reflecting the area’s history as a military camp during the British rule. These houses, often painted in pastel colours, are usually one or two stories high and have pitched roofs. Some of them also feature beautiful verandahs and courtyards. Over the years, some of these houses have been converted into commercial spaces, but they still retain their old-world charm.
Continuing on from the charming houses of Camp area, another fascinating neighbourhood in Pune is MG Road, or Main Street. This bustling street is the commercial heart of Pune, with shops selling everything from clothing to electronics. Walking down MG Road is like taking a tour of the city’s commercial evolution, with old bookstores standing proudly next to modern clothing boutiques.
One can’t talk about Pune without mentioning its educational institutions. The city is home to some of India’s most prestigious universities and colleges, like the University of Pune, Fergusson College, and Symbiosis International University. These institutions, with their sprawling campuses and impressive architecture, contribute significantly to the city’s landscape. that’s all what I have noticed, experienced about Pune, I have written here, I’ll share it’s other part soon.
